I used resin seats from the KA model add-on set for the Trumpeter version of the 1/12th scale GT40. This set is hard to find, but I got lucky on getting one. I would say most of what's in that set provides a small, incremental improvement on this car out of the box. The kit already includes some PE anyway in fact. But the KA material is better and the seats are particularly good.
Setting in place everyone of those metal washers took a while. By all accounts these seats were as uncomfortable as they look. The comfort (nor safety really) of the drivers was not the primary concern. Also, the areas directly to the outside of each seat are actually the car's duel fuel tanks.
Notice that only the driver has seat belts. This is normal. Race rules required the car to have a passenger seat, but there never was a passenger. The car is also right hand drive, for the Le Mans endurance race.
Again the mix of color helps. I used that Tamiya NATO Black on the roll bars, but a common flat black on the floor.
The metal/silver center part between the seats (where oil lines run?) is
the kit's chrome part sprayed with a matte clear. For some of the clear
though I actually used an adhesion promoter primer. It seals just like the usual matte clear I use, but
gives a slightly different finish. It also of course works well as a plastic primer.
Again this all just helps mix up the colors and textures for a more realistic appearance.
