Tiny little box for this one...
This is two wing sub-assemblies with 6 or 7 parts each, plus the remaining pieces ready for a primer. Not a lot of parts on this, but what it has a very detailed.
I painted this with Tamiya primer and I think the color is just fine. Not quite white, not quite grey...
The kit comes with stickers that are extremely thin and work surprisingly well. They are very sticky though. You really only get one chance to lay them down in place.
Not bad! I think I should do more from this Bandai 1:144 line.
Not exactly Wingnut Wings, but a fun and inexpensive one-day project just the same!

Tamiya 1:32 Scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc, Part 8, Completed!
That's a wrap on this Tamiya Spitfire in 1:32 scale. This was a great kit,
loaded with detail and high quality engineering.
In addition to the engine, the cockpit is one of the kit's strong points, but it's very hard to see in there.
The model features a whole set of removable panels, held on with magnets. The entire engine can be exposed. This... Sort of works. The fit is very, very close so the panels just hang on there barely, unless you have been extremely careful in assembling the nose parts. Layers of paint are definitely enough to throw it off.
It has to be said, a huge warning about this kit... The decals are quite flawed. I tried to use them as much as I could, but it wasn't a good idea. I purchased a Revell set to finish it up and repair the Tamiya decals, but there's a few places where I couldn't hide the problem. I should have just used alternate decals pretty much throughout.
Find the rest of this project here.

The magnets are strong, but after they get buried in plastic and paint, not so much. One mine the panels will only just hold in place, with a less than perfect fit. I will probably go ahead and glue at least a couple of them, and display the model with the rest off. The engine detail is excellent and needs to be visible.

Tamiya 1:32 Scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc, Part 7
The paint came out pretty well for my primitive methods. I used slightly raised masks to fuzzy the edges.
The cockpit detail is excellent on this model, but it's hard to see in there.
The Tamiya color for the underside turns out to be the same paint I used for the hull of the Enterprise.
This decal was applied, coated with very light micro-sol several times, and sealed with the same gloss clear coat it was set down on. It should have been all done. Setting the plane upside down on foam pads to do the underside pulled up the decal in places.
This decal spontaneously peeled up all on it's own. Nothing touched it. It was all "done" and clear coated also.

By the way, oddly (I think) the landing gear can be removed and replaced with a gear-up version. There is a locking screw holding the gear in, no cement, and part of the bay cover is magnetically held in place. I can't see ever making this change. I really should just glue it. But I do tend to build things as-designed so there it is.
The prop looks good.
As I got started with the decals I ran into some serious issues. I looked around online and found others commenting on the same problems. For whatever reason, the decal set included with this specific kit is pretty awful. They never really "stick" and setting solutions have a much stronger reaction that on other decals I have used. The decals turn to goop almost instantly. I ruined a handful of them finding all this out.

By this time I had obtained a Revell decal set for their Spitfire model.
I patched in a piece of the revell decal and re-sealed it. The colors are not a perfect match but it is very, very close. Fixed? I hope so.

I did this on several Tamiya decals on the model.
Nearly there...
This is the completed model with some light weathering, one last matte finish, a last few (delicate) parts put on and the antenna wire. I have one last post on this project with final photos. It has a few flaws but nothing significant. It should yield some good pictures.
