Eaglemoss 1:8 Scale Aston Martin DB5, Part 1, Center Console

Next up we have the 1/8th scale James Bond edition Aston Martin DB5 from Eaglemoss. This is a highly detailed model of the 1964 DB5 that made its debut driven by Sean Connery's 007 in the film Gold Finger, complete with gadgets!

This is the center console, where the hidden controls for the car's special features are located. As provided, it looked pretty good, but the details were not painted. I added a couple shades of black and detailed the controls.

Much like the Agora Models Shelby Cobra, I will be adding details to this build up, and quite a lot of paint.

Stay Tuned, it should be a lot of fun!

Trumpeter Ford GT40 1/12 Scale, Part 3

There's a boatload of these fittings in this kit. Seriously, there must be 30 of them.

I got a bunch of hose clamps in PE as another add-on for this project. They're pretty convincing I think.

I added rubber tubing and slipped the hose clamp over. It's quite a bit of extra work, but worth it.

You can see the above hose clamps here on the front of the engine.

I also replaced the kit's part for the pulley and belt with separate components and a watch gasket. This is a huge improvement over the clunky one-piece part the kit came with. Unfortunately most of this will not be visible in the end.

I agree with an observation about this kit that I have seen in reviews. Overall the model is very detailed, but a few areas are surprisingly under done, almost as though they were not completed. The engine is one of those areas. I have seen more details on 1:24th scale model engines. Still, it's not hard to improve it with a little custom work.

Indoor

One of the better labels for the times we live in...

Amati 1/10th Scale Bleriot XI, Part 6

To build up the engine, the first step was to create jig. You're on your own for this. I used a wood scrap from the kit and a couple pieces of brass rod.

The parts are thick brass photo etch that get assembled in layers. It takes careful reading of the text of the translated instructions to get this right.

There's white metal cast pieces to finish off these assemblies.

It turned out to be a nice item to work on outdoors on a spring day. There's no good lighting like plain sunlight.

The engine block is two halves of plastic and more brass. I filled in the seams.

Little brass nuts are used with a brass tack through the center. The head of the little tack forms a very convincing bolt.

I made a mistake here.

I was suppose to leave a couple bolts off as I realized later that they are supposed to pass through the front of the support bar that holds the engine. This was not all all called out in the instructions so it's easy to miss. I haven't yet worked out what I'll do about this.

More thick PE, three plastic tubes in PVC plastic and a cast part...

Primered and ready for more assembly...

Agora Models Shelby Cobra in 1/8th Scale, Part 4

The interior is next. Again, I painted/repainted many details.

As provided, the seats are a soft material stretch over a plastic frame. Nice effect...

The floor is also covered with a fine flocking.

There is wiring visible here for a switch behind the accelerator peddle.

Amati 1/10th Scale Bleriot XI, Part 5

This frame goes on the front and supports the engine and the landing gear. it's basically the "nose".

I did once read that this aircraft has been called a flying refrigerator.
At any rate, the wood effect was time consuming but came out well.

Here's the completed tail.
I put in I don't know how many of these eyes for the planes rigging. There are many, many of them. It took days.

Trumpeter Ford GT40 1/12 Scale, Part 2

Trying something new, I made a bunch of bolts out of ordinary straight pins. I used the indexing ability of the watchmaker's lathe and an fine file.
The bolts turned out fairly convincing here on the rear of the gearbox.
Note that the top of the engine is a gold or champagne color. This part came that way in the kit and I left it. Many parts in the kit, oddly are re-painted, partially in some cases, with a handful of colors. It's odd. But the color and finish is good so I left it. The rest of the engine I painted after stripping the chrome. Yes there was way, way too much chrome.

These exhaust pipes are cast "white metal" that I painted. I obtained them as add-ons for the Trumpeter version of this kit. They work fine after a small amount of clear up. As far as I can tell my no-name GT40 is identical to the Trumpeter version.
The exhaust pipes are also a metal replacement for the plastic parts. It was a pain getting all 8 of them in place. I put that aside and did some of the details on the engine first instead as shown in the next post.
