Wingnut Wings Jeannine Stahltaube (1914). Part 1

Here we have Wingnut Wings Jeannine Stahltaube. Taube is German for dove, and a term used broadly for this class of early wartime monoplanes. Stahltaube is steel dove, as this variation had a steel frame.

I had some idea that a Wingnut Wings monoplane kit would go a little quicker than the two biplanes I have done. But not so much... The detail on this plane is quite a challenge and the result is shockingly delicate. It will definitely have to go in some sort of display case.

I started on the engine...

I immediately lost one of two of these little parts. Oil filters? So I made a quick substitute out of brass on the lathe. No one will ever know.

The plastic one is to the right. My replacement might even be a little better!

Here is the engine nearly done...

This will be almost entirely covered up when the model is completed.

The molding on this kit is particularly insane. These parts include incredibly fragile, thin details molded on as one to larger pieces. Just handling the sprues has to be done with great care.

My wood detail is getting better but after doing this I realized that part of the front bulkhead is supposed to be aluminum. Oh well...

Some of the interior rigging is on the inside of the fuselage on this kit.

Here is a test fit of the interior module in the fuselage. This craft has quite large hole in the top for the crew so more of the interior will be viable when it is all assembled than on other planes.
